Im März 2020 war mein Mensch bei einem Aufbauseminar für Falkner in der
JL Jagdschule am Linslerhof im Saarland.
Prof. Dr. med. vet. Michael Lierz von der Uniklinik Gießen hielt sehr interessante Vorträge:
- Krankheiten der Greifvögel
- Erste Hilfe bei Greifvögeln
- Rehabilitation von Greifvögeln
- Grundlagen der Zucht von Falken
Mein Mensch hat dort viel gelernt und sehr interessante Dinge erfahren.
Selbst wenn man sich nicht für die Zucht interessiert, waren doch in dem kurzweiligen Vortrag klasse Fakten dabei, die es meinem Menschen erleichtern, das Wesen von uns Falken immer noch besser zu verstehen.
Prof. Lierz stand den Teilnehmern auch in den Pausen bereitwillig und sympathisch für jede Frage zur Verfügung.
Mein Mensch hatte ihn gefragt, ob es Sinn machen würde, mit dem eigenen Falken zu einem Gesundheitscheck zum Tierarzt zu gehen, auch wenn der Falke gesund ist.
Er sagte, ja, das sei sinnvoll, denn zum einen geht man selbst auch zur Vorsorge zum Arzt, und zum anderen wird man eventuell mit der Zeit „betriebsblind“, wenn man sein Tier jeden Tag sieht und dann könnten einem Dinge nicht mehr auffallen, die vielleicht andere gleich sehen.
Natürlich ist es wichtig, einen Tierarzt zu finden, der sich mit Greifvögeln auskennt. Hier kann man z.B. andere Falkner fragen, um Empfehlungen zu bekommen.
A propos andere Falkner: mein Mensch sagte, es sei toll gewesen, bei dem Kurs andere Falkner zu treffen und sich mit ihnen austauschen zu können. 🙂
Auch Hannah Pütz, die das Ganze organisiert hat, beantwortete alle Fragen der Teilnehmer und gab viele wertvolle Tipps.
Anja Bettinger und Mario Speicher aus Schwalbach hatten u.a. ihre Frettchen dabei und erzählten viel Wissenswertes über ihre Frettchen, ihre Habichte und ihre Erfahrungen als Falkner. Das war auch klasse.
Dieser Kurs soll wieder stattfinden, wer Interesse daran hat, einfach auf die Homepage von JL schauen.

– Diseases of birds of prey
– First aid for birds of prey
– Rehabilitation of birds of prey
– Basics of breeding falcons
My human learned a lot there and experienced very interesting things.
Even if one is not interested in breeding, there were nevertheless class facts in the entertaining lecture, which make it easier for my human to understand the nature of us falcons still better.
Prof. Lierz was also available to the participants in the breaks willingly and sympathetically for any question.
My human had asked him if it would make sense to take your own falcon to the vet for a health check, even if the falcon is healthy.
He said, yes, it would make sense, because on the one hand you also go to the doctor for preventive care yourself, and on the other hand you might become „operation-blind“ over time if you see your animal every day and then you might not notice things that others might see right away.
Of course, it is important to find a veterinarian who is familiar with birds of prey. This is where you can ask other falconers, for example, to get recommendations.
Speaking of other falconers: my human said it was great to meet other falconers at the course and to be able to exchange ideas with them. 🙂
Hannah Pütz, who organized the whole thing, also answered all the participants‘ questions and gave many valuable tips.
Anja Bettinger and Mario Speicher from Schwalbach had among other things their ferrets with them and told a lot of interesting facts about their ferrets, their goshawks and their experiences as falconers. That was also great.
